She Doesn't Show

She doesn’t show her poems to anyone.

At least,

not right away.

She finds them sometimes,

crumpled,

folded,

hidden away,

and rereads them, eyes

the date on the bottom, feels

the itching that made her write it in the first place.

If someone’s around, she may

read it to them, laughing,

saying, “must have been a bad day”

as if she can’t still feel

the burning

itch

for release.
